Academic Program Development
The Office of Academic Planning and Institutional Research supports campus units with academic programming actions, such as new degree program proposals, new school proposals, and academic unit name change proposals. All academic programming actions must meet campus, UC system, and accreditation requirements, and proposals are reviewed by appropriate review bodies (e.g., Academic Faculty Senate, campus administration, UC Office of the President, etc.). There are different requirements for types of actions (e.g., new programs, consolidations, etc.), types of degree programs (undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees, distance education programs, etc.), and levels of reviews (campus, UCOP, WSCUC, etc.). The Program Planning and Development webpage provides guidelines and resources for all academic program actions. The Academic Planning Outlook webpage provides a list of recent academic program actions.
For UC Irvine faculty or staff interested in submitting a program action proposal, we recommend contacting the Division of Academic Planning team and scheduling a consultation meeting.
