About our office
The Office of Academic Planning and Institutional Research is comprised of three units that aim to provide integrated services to support the institution’s pursuit of its mission and strategic plan.
Division of Academic Planning
The Division of Academic Planning (DAP) supports administrative leadership, Academic Senate, units across campus, and community partners with accreditation, academic program planning and administration, educational policies, strategic initiatives, and student outcomes. DAP also coordinates the implementation and ongoing assessment of UCI's Strategic Plan - Bright Past, Brilliant Future. Recently refreshed in 2023, the plan is a true reflection of our collective vision. Now at the implementation and assessment stages, the strategic plan guides our work and leads us to shine brighter.
Division of Institutional Research
The Division of Institutional Research collects, analyzes, and interprets a wide variety of data about the university and its external environment for the purposes of assessing institutional outcomes, measuring institutional performance against strategic planning goals, comparative analysis with peer institutions, and reporting to campus constituencies and external agencies. Together, Academic Planning and Institutional Research will strengthen the alignment of data, analysis, and decision support with broad academic and strategic planning.
Center for Assessment and Applied Research
The Center for Assessment and Applied Research (CAAR) leads UCI’s assessments of student learning outcomes, and we conduct applied research on all aspects of the student experience.
CAAR provides campus leaders with information on students, programs, and policies to support planning and decision-making. Our work promotes the importance of systematic inquiry, evidence-based decision-making, and the continuous improvement of undergraduate and graduate education. Most of our projects are collaborative, involving faculty, staff, and administrators—we value building shared responsibility for student success.
